The generation 200, which we have listed as to be built starting between January and May 2014, was being led by Lancia people when we last saw it; it is likely to be sold as the Lancia Flavia in convertible and sedan form. The 2015 Chrysler 200 will have a Chrysler 2.4 four-cylinder, and the 3.2 V6, possibly with a 3.6 option as well. The 1.4 liter Fiat engine has reportedly been axed, at least for American markets, though the similar Alfa Guilia will use the 1.4 turbo and the Alfa 1.8 direct-injection turbo engine and a 2-liter diesel.

The 200 will have the nine-speed ZF automatic, and a 38 mpg target in a special ?HFE? model. It will bring out the new Chrysler/Lancia ?style language? which will later be adopted by other Chrysler cars and minivans ? though not, for some time, the 300.

The ?UF? body code shows up as ?Sebring? in Chrysler?s systems. It was probably just entered before the name change, but there is a small possibility that the Sebring name will return, leaving the alphanumeric 300 alone at the top of the Chrysler lineup. That would emphasize the 300?s luxury versus the Sebring?s ?cover everything? role.

Chrysler CEO Saad Chebad told us: I can?t tell you right now? what we?re going to do with the 200. All I can tell you is that it will be an extremely competitive vehicle in the marketplace. At the same time, it?s not going to be ? it?s not the 200 of today. [The segment] went up in design and quality and content, so there?s this movement in the marketplace as well, in the D segment. There?s a lot of people coming from E segment size cars to D because the D segment cars are getting also bigger, right? So you have to take that into consideration, that that car has to stretch from people coming from E, you know? And luxuries and everything else? as well as you still have that mainstream D segment customer that you?ve got to attend to in many different ways. ? You?ve got fleets, you?ve got this, you?ve got that, you?ve got all sorts of things you?ve got to keep in mind.
